On the sidelines of the World Bank / International Monetary Fund (IMF) Assemblies held in Washington, the Minister of the Economy and Finance Romuald Wadagni had a working session on Thursday, October 17 with Kristalina Georgieva, the new Managing Director of the IMF … Maintain good relations between international financial institutions, in particular the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Benin. This is the subject of this session at the initiative of the Beninese national treasurer. On the menu of discussions between the two personalities, the positive development of Benin’s program with the IMF, the performance of Benin’s economy that of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) zone of which he is the president of the Council of Statutory ministers. Kristalina Georgieva praised Benin’s performance in the context of its reforms and the consolidation of its growth. Indeed, the new IMF DG has received from its teams a very positive report on Benin as part of the monitoring of the program currently underway. Minister Wadagni took the opportunity to present an update on the progress made by the country over the last three years as well as the strategy for diversifying its economy. He also praised the quality of the support provided by the IMF team which will once again visit Cotonou as part of its 5th review. As President of the UEMOA Council of Ministers, Romuald Wadagni discussed with Kristalina Georgieva the economic performance of the area. The director praised the efforts made both in Benin and at the regional level, and pledged the constant support of her institution. It should be noted that Kristalina Georgina, who succeeded Christine Lagarde on October 1, 2019, has a good knowledge of the African continent and its development challenges, due to her career at the World Bank and the European Commission. Based on the quality relationship of her predecessor with the continent and with Benin in particular, Kristalina Georgina expressed the wish to develop the same friendship with the continent and Benin.
