As part of the implementation of the project “Reinventing the lakeside city of Ganvié”, one of the flagship projects of the Government’s Action Program, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Romuald WADAGNI, The Minister of Tourism and Culture and Arts, Mr. Jean-Michel Abimbola, the Ambassador of France in Benin, Mrs. Véronique BRUMEAUX and the Director of the French Development Agency in Benin, Mr. Adrien HAYE, signed two financing agreements on Thursday September 26, 2019 in the premises of Sèmè-City in Cotonou. With a total amount of nearly 25 billion FCFA, this funding supports the efforts made by the Government of Benin to improve the living conditions of the populations of Ganvié and promote the development of sustainable tourism activities in this locality of Benin. . This project takes into account: – the construction of a dike road adapted to floods between Akassato and Sô-Ava, – development of the Abomey-Calavi pier and the fish market, – connecting residents to public water and electricity networks, Other objectives of the project: the preservation of the biodiversity of Lake Nokoué through the sustainable use of its resources and the promotion of economic activities alternative to fishing. It is structured in four components, namely: – open up / reconnect Ganvié (road, pier, college, CSA, Maison de la Francophonie, beaconing, dredging) – improve the living conditions of at least 50,000 people (removal of ruins, reconstruction / renovation of 2,500 houses, AEP, electricity, youth center, craft center, landing stage, Place de Dakomey, floating markets) – contribute to the enhancement and diversification of resources from Lake Nokoué at the Ganvié scale (cross-sectional studies, support for IGAs) and – support the implementation of the project (project management, support to the municipality of Sô-Ava, AFD Technical Assistance). The Ambassador of France to Benin, Madame Véronique BRUMEAUX, in her was delighted that France is supporting this multidimensional project and welcomes the actions already undertaken with national funding in recent months in Ganvié. The Ministers of the Economy and Finance and the Minister in charge of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, expressed their joy to see these agreements signed and reassured France that the funds will be used appropriately to see them materialize in a few months, the city of ganvié Reinvented.
