The launch of the 2018 edition of the financial inclusion week in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) took place this Monday, November 26, 2018 at the headquarters of the Central Bank of African States of the ‘West (BCEAO), in the presence of the Governor, Tiémoko Meyliet KONE. The ceremony was chaired by the President of the Council of Ministers of UMOA, Mr. Romuald WADAGNI, also Minister of Economy and Finance of Benin. He had at his side Mr. Xavier MICHON, Deputy Executive Secretary of UNCDF, the United Nations Equipment Fund (UNCDF). The 1st edition of the Financial Inclusion Week in the WAEMU on the theme “Financial inclusion: lever of economic and social development” has for main objective to bring together the actors of the financial sector, with a view to discussing the important issues of the financial sector. time, which constitute specific concerns and challenges for each country of the Union in terms of financial inclusion. In his introductory remarks to the participants, the Governor of the BCEAO indicated that by organizing this meeting, the institution he heads decided to play its part to raise awareness in favor of financial inclusion. Indeed, better integrating those excluded from traditional financial systems is a problem at the heart of all development policies, also a subject of concern at the global level. For Governor Koné, “This will involve raising awareness among stakeholders on the importance of financial inclusion in the economic and social development of WAEMU countries, by highlighting the potential contribution of the generalization of the use from financial services to development. The opportunity will also be taken to raise awareness of the BCEAO’s action in this area, particularly that included in the Regional Strategy for Financial Inclusion ”
