COMMUNICATED PRESS Benin mobilizes € 39.8 million from the European Union for the continued implementation of the Government’s Action Program. The Minister of the Economy and Finances is pleased to announce the mobilization with the European Union of 39.8 million euros, or about 26.1 billion CFA francs in respect of 2019 budget support tranches as part of the implementation of the National Indicative Program of 11 th European Fund Development. This financial support comes in a context where our country Benin, like other countries in the world is facing a health crisis due to to the COVID19 pandemic. This support is intended to strengthen the pursuit of implementation of projects and reforms included in the Action Program of the Government (PAG). It aims to give priority to the Government’s efforts in satisfactory implementation of three financing agreements: (i) the Good Governance and Development (CBDG), (ii) the Support Program for Territorial Development (PADT) and the Development Support Program Sustainable Agriculture Sector (PADDSA). The disbursed resources aim to: support up to 18 million euros for government efforts in the conduct of public policies, steering macroeconomic and budgetary management, the implementation of reforms of public finances, and the fight against corruption and impunity; press for 12.8 million euros for interventions by government authorities and in the implementation of the National Policy of Decentralization and Deconcentration (PONADEC) with a view to balanced territories, improved governance at the level of municipalities and the provision of quality services to the populations;encourage up to 9 million euros the government of Benin in implementing the reforms essential to sustainable improvement in the performance of Beninese agriculture. This significant disbursement brought to 144.12 million euros, i.e. around 94.5 million billion CFA Francs the volume of budget support from the European Union in favor of Benin since 2016 and sufficiently demonstrates the performance and credibility of the management of public policies. Indeed, the quality of the reforms carried out since 2016 with the support of all donors including the European Union has made it possible to maintain fairly strong economic growth reaching a rate of 6.7% in 2018 against 3.3%. in 2016 with the option of taking charge of the most disadvantaged populations through social safety nets. These results were favored through a fiscal policy which resulted in an increase in revenues, control of public expenditure and prudent management of debt. Based on these results, the Government of Benin intends to improve and broaden the scope of cooperation with the European Union for a greater mobilization of resources for the well-being of populations, through the strengthening of dialogue in the context of Post Cotonou.
