The General Inspectorate of Finances (IGF) commemorated its sixty (60) years of existence on Friday March 14, 2020. It was on the occasion of a solemn ceremony which took place at the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Created on March 14, 1960, the General Inspectorate of Finance’s mission is to verify the management of the universality of handling of public funds and to ensure that all external agents fulfill the obligations imposed on them by laws and regulations. . It is also responsible for examining the progress of the various financial services in order to submit to the Minister of Finance the views which appear likely to improve the various branches of which the finance department is composed.
In sixty (60) years of practice, the IGF has known its heyday, its crossing of the desert and today its renewal.
According to the Inspector General of Finance, Head of Service, Zisson FACINOU, it is with the advent of democratic renewal that a rehabilitation program of the Inspectorate General of Finance was implemented under the rule of the late Paul Dossou, Minister in charge of finance at the time with the support of the IGF of France in collaboration with the executives who animated the service at the moment and the representatives of the General Directorate of the Budget. “It is the work of all these actors which made it possible to organize the first recruitment competition for Finance Inspectors in 1993 and to provide the IGF with its first texts,” he said.
the IGF is currently governed by decree n ° 93-45 of 11 March 1993 relating to its attributions, its organization and its functioning. “Eight competitive examinations for the recruitment of senior executives to exercise the functions of finance inspector were organized. The service now has a staff of 43 staff: 7 active finance inspectors, 8 auditors at the IGF and 28 executives of various levels, “he added.
Taking part in the ceremony, the former Head of Service of the IGF, Félicienne GUINIKOUKOU underlines that the importance of the IGF is so great that it was born before August 1, 1960. Its roots through the ages, its life, its functioning and its expansion have known varying fortunes at the whim of the public authorities. For her, the strict recruitment criterion given the guidelines set by the texts and the low number of applicants for IGF recruitment are the main reasons for the current number of staff. In addition, she advised the new IGF agents to avoid succumbing to the corrupters because there will always be some.
For the Chief of Staff of the Minister of Economy and Finance, Hermann Orou Takou, the IGF has its place in the government’s efforts for good governance and the sound management of State resources. “Your integrity has helped to establish the prestige of the body of finance inspectors. The dream is that the IGF’s interventions are known and appreciated beyond our borders,” he said.
